5 Tips to Control Anxiety Attacks

 

 

Panic Attacks, Anxiety Disorder, Anxiety attacks, Panic Disorder – Whatever label they are given, can make you lose confidence, control, feel insecure and that the whole universe is a scary place to be. This feeling can last minutes, 2-3 hours, and sometimes many days. In order to control anxiety attacks it's imperative you treat your anxiety symptoms. First you need to find ways to relax and this in turn will help to stop anxiety. But panic attacks are a real phobia, so to find your anxiety cure you must take correctional steps to control the anxiety disorder.

Tip 1.  Get help from a Therapist

Your therapist will help with your anxiety symptoms by finding the route of your problem. A good therapist will help you learn techniques to avoid panic attacks, one example of this is positive visualization. Techniques like this will help to stop the feelings associated with anxiety disorder.

A therapist can also teach specific breathing techniques that will also help to control anxiety attacks. Make sure you complete the full course your counselor has recommended as it's a crucial part of learning anxiety management.

Be sure to inform your therapist if your anxiety peaks in certain situations, as they will teach you how to deal with anxiety in these specific situations. You will learn to control anxiety attacks by using desensitization techniques. Once you know how to avoid panic attacks with these techniques, they will work for the rest of your life.

Tip 2.  Visit Your GP / Doctor

Take a trip to the doctors as they can assist by prescribing medications for anxiety. This can sometimes be an essential part of treating anxiety disorder. On occasion you may also be given an antidepressant, depending on various factors associated with your anxiety symptoms.

This may not be for everyone. If medication for panic attacks is not something that suits you, then you could speak to your doctor about natural herbal remedies for anxiety. Herbs like kava kava or St. Johns Wort are used extensively to help control anxiety attacks, they may help stop anxiety or you.

Tip 3.  What About Aromatherapy

We discussed the importance of using visualization and relaxation techniques. We also looked at natural remedies and anxiety medication for dealing with panic attacks. But did you know you can also use aromatherapy to help you control symptoms of anxiety? Scents like rose, lime and patchouli are well known and well documented for having a calming effect on the body.

You could even make your own aromatherapy set tailored for yourself using essential oils. These can be used by themselves or even with other products. You can make lotions, lip balms and even scented bubble bath. To do this simply buy unscented lotions, then add a few drops of your chosen calming essential oil and use it when you feel anxious.

Tip 4.  Using Combination Treatments

All the anxiety cures we have looked at are beneficial, but most of the time, you will find that using a combination of treatments to control anxiety attacks will be most beneficial. While you should never mix prescription anxiety medications and over the counter treatments such as kava kava (unless you have your doctors consent), you can combine relaxation techniques, aromatherapy and visualization in addition to any medication you are taking.

Control Anxiety Attacks Using Self Help Programs: This is now very popular and the right course can be an extremely effective way to cure panic attacks. But be aware - You should still have your condition evaluated by a professional, even if you have successfully used a self help program. Severe anxiety panic disorder can become debilitating over time, so whilst self help is effective, it is always best to use professional consultation as at least part of your anxiety treatment plan.
